Mountain biking in France

Mountain biking (MTB) is the perfect way to explore trails, forests and alpine pastures up close to nature. The thrill of the descent, the satisfaction of the climb, ever-changing panoramas: it's a complete activity, both sporty and contemplative. And with the arrival of the electric mountain bike (e-MTB), routes once reserved for hardened athletes are now open to everyone — the motor smooths out the climbs so you can fully enjoy the scenery and the descents.

Since 1994, Takamaka offers guided MTB and e-MTB outings as well as bike rental, on varied terrain from lakeside paths to mountain single-tracks. Whether you're after a family ride on a greenway or a technical descent, our instructors take you on the finest routes in each region.

How it works

How an MTB outing unfolds

After fitting the bike to your size and handing out protection, the instructor takes a moment for a quick briefing: brake handling, position on the bike and, for the e-MTB, how the assistance modes work. The outing then starts on a route chosen to match your level and wishes — a relaxed discovery, a sporty ride or a more committing descent.

Along the way, the instructor watches over safety, shares riding tips and paces the breaks to enjoy the viewpoints. An outing generally lasts 2 to 4 hours, or a full day with a picnic. Electric assistance lets you cover great distances and big elevation gain without wearing yourself out.

Who it's for

From beginner to seasoned rider

Thanks to the electric mountain bike, MTB is no longer reserved for trained legs. Families and beginners enjoy rides on greenways and easy paths, while experienced riders find their fix on technical single-tracks and committing descents. Everyone progresses at their own pace, accompanied by an instructor who adapts the route.

MTB is also an excellent group and team building activity: the shared ride, mutual support on the climbs and team spirit on orienteering courses make it a prized format for corporate seminars and outings with friends.

Safety

Supervision & equipment

Our outings are led by qualified instructors who know their terrain perfectly and adapt the route to conditions and the group. Safety relies on reliable, well-maintained gear: quality MTBs and e-MTBs, helmet and protection provided, and a riding briefing before each outing.

Bring sportswear, closed shoes and, depending on the weather, a windbreaker and water. For e-MTB outings, don't worry about range: batteries are sized for the routes and the instructor manages the assistance levels so no one is left behind.

Where to go

Mountain biking across France

Lakesides, Pre-Alpine massifs, vineyards or volcanoes: each Takamaka destination offers its own MTB and e-MTB routes, plus equipment rental.

Season & groups

When to ride, and with whom

MTB runs from spring to autumn, as soon as the trails are clear. Spring and autumn offer ideal temperatures and beautiful colours, while summer is best enjoyed early in the morning or at altitude. Electric assistance extends the season and opens routes to a wider audience.

For a seminar, team building or group outing, MTB and e-MTB allow varied formats: discovery ride, orienteering rally or sporty challenge. See our seminar & team building page, and all our outdoor activities. Need gear only? Consider our bike rental.
